Mission Statement

The mission of the Gulf Breeze Natural Gas Department is to provide safe, clean, efficient, reliable energy to the customers of our system at the lowest cost.

About Natural Gas

Natural Gas, also known as methane, is a colorless, odorless, fuel that burns cleaner than many other traditional fossil fuels. It is one of the most popular forms of energy today. It is used for heating, cooling, production of electricity and it finds many uses in industry.
Natural Gas is produced by drilling into the Earth's crust where pockets of natural gas were trapped hundreds of thousands of years ago. Once the gas is brought to the surface, it is refined to remove impurities. Then it is transmitted through large pipelines to residential and business customers. The distributor adds an odorant to the gas as a safety measure so that people will be able to tell if there is a gas leak, or if they have forget to turn off an appliance.

For the 4th straight year, an overwhelming 70 percent of the single-family homes completed in 1999 featured natural gas, demonstrating consumers strong preference for this efficient fuel, according to a survey released by the American Gas Association.

About the Department

The Gulf Breeze Natural Gas Department continues to rank as the third fastest growth rate utility in the State of Florida. This is accomplished with a trained work force of 6 employees under the direction of Vernon Prather. The Department's key responsibilities are the design, construction and maintenance of the City's gas line infrastructure.

Along with this impressive growth rate, Gulf Breeze Natural Gas continues to pass Public Service Commission safety inspections without violations.

Some Reasons Why Gulf Breeze Natural Gas Thinks that natural gas is the fuel of the 21st Century:

Natural gas is America's natural wonder.

  • Natural gas use has increased by 35 percent over the last decade, and is projected to grow by 45 percent by 2015.
  • 99 percent of all natural gas we use comes from North America.

Natural gas is the cleanest, safest and most efficient fossil fuel.

  • Electricity comes from coal burning generators which produces far more emissions than natural gas.
  • The 2 million mile underground natural gas delivery system has an outstanding safety record.
  • Regardless of the weather, you can depend on your natural gas utility to bring you natural gas.

Gulf Breeze Natural Gas Utility is your neighbor and trusted energy partner.

  • We have an investment in and a commitment to your community. Gulf Breeze Natural Gas has been serving the Fairpoint Peninsula for over 37 years.
